Just under a month ago I turned #Vegan, and one of the first things I worried about was where the hell was I going to get my Xmas fix of Baileys now? Like, seriously! I was actually considering cancelling Xmas. I'm an atheist anyway, so what did I care 🤷🏻‍♂️😅 I'm joking of course, but Xmas time is the only time of the year that I enjoy a glass or twenty of the stuff; it just doesn't feel right drinking it during the rest of the year. Anyhoo, to my delight I discovered that Baileys do indeed have a dairy-free alternative, Almande. I was very excited and I pounced upon a bottle to sample in no time at all. It was shit! 😭 Ok, shit is a strong word, but as I prefer to drink my Baileys neat, this was just too marzipany for me after a glass or two. Bugger. Then, thanks to the magic of Instagram I discovered Shannon's. So, with some trepidation, off to Tesco I toddle, pick up a bottle and returned home. I opened it and poured a glass. Straight away I could see it was smoother and (not)creamier. Then I tasted it, and 🥳🎉🥳🎉🥳🎉🤤🤤 I could hear angels singing and had the most intense mouth orgasm. Xmas was saved 🎄🎅🎄🎅 So, the short version of this whole post is that Shannon's shits all over Almande. Sorry Baileys. The latter will be grand as a mixer, but just not as a quick snifter of a Xmas. As you were. 😊
I had a great time fungi hunting earlier today. I found quite a few tucked away along the Alban Way, an old disused branch line that has been turned into a cycle/footpath. I'm not entirely sure what any of these are, but, thanks to the magic of Google Lens, I do believe that we have an amethyst deceiver (the purple one), a collection of sulphur tuft (photo 5), a coral fungus (the last photo), a turkey tail (the 2nd photo), and a wonderful Rhodotus palmatus (the pink blobby one, aka wrinkled peach, aka photos 7-9). Rhodotus is apparently in severe decline across Europe, appearing on several Red Lists as either endangered or Critically Endangered, so it's very exciting to see it here (should that actually be what it is). I had a bit of a wander today to enjoy the crisp autumn day. Clocked up 20km (12 miles) and along the way nabbed a few shots of wot I did see 🍁🍂👍🏼 There's some cracking fungi out there right now. I saw a few absolute stunners, but annoyingly they were on other people's property so I couldn't photograph them on my phone. I do love a bit of @slash and @officialmyleskennedy and The Conspirators, especially when they're live. This album is cracking so far 🤘🏼 I'll get around to watching the accompanying DVD some time before the year is out I'm sure 😆
So @hannahgore96 and I completed our 100km continuous #thamespathchallenge in 26h 43m, which was far as I'm concerned is blinding. Hannah blistered early due, partly, to the surface underfoot in the first half, and I followed suit (though H had it way way worse than I). She had treatment from the excellent @actionchallenge medical staff and soldiered on without moaning (beyond the reasonable), until the end. She was brilliant. Thank you Hannah for everything and for being so wonderful for the entire 26 hours. I wouldn't have wanted anyone else by my side. We were raising money for the @mssocietyuk and you can donate through my JustGiving (www.justgiving.com/martygore71) page if you so desire I've already raised over £1000 and I'm so happy about that, but there's still room for more over the next 6 weeks 😉 This was far tougher than I thought it would be and I'm proper thrilled we completed it 😊 #ultrachallenge #ultrawalker #actionchallenge
Home, safe and sound. All in all an excellent trip home. Faultless all the way, well, as long as my bag arrives 😆. Same can't be said for poor Ben traveling to Australia, sadly. It's all going wrong for him 😟 Hopefully it's sorted now though.
